Can the background color of a message dialog box be changed?
You can create a dialog that shows any arbitrary component, so the answer is yes. What have you tried?

I was wondering if you could do something like JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(panel, "zzz");
There are other functions in the JOptionPane that allow you to display any component you want in a dialog. Just set the background color of the component you pass in.
