This should be the top hit in just about any search engine if you search 'java excel' (would have probably been easier for everyone if this was done first)
Apache POI - the Java API for Microsoft Documents
If speed and memory is of your concern, then you may want to check out GemBox.Spreadsheet for Java.
I have recently swiched to it do to necessity, here is a snippet of its API:
