Currently I have java TM 6 update 2 and java TM SE development kit 6 update 18 in the control panel in my PC, are they the same thing with different names? If not, can I delete one of them or have to keep both?

I would recommend having both of them there. If you're not planning on doing any Java development, you don't need the JDK. Likewise, you can have just the JDK, but this doesn't really make much sense because I think you won't be able to run any Java programs I would also recommend updating to the latest version (Java SE6 update 22).
