JavaFX is something to build rich internet applications like Flash or SilverLight. However it is not widespread and seems to be died.

Did you try google? The first hit: JavaFX | Rich Internet Applications Development | RIAs Java FX
I disagree that it has 'died'...it seems to me to be quite alive and well. However do agree it is not widespread - at least relative to other alternatives. Quite possibly because it is not distributed with the JRE or available on all platforms (at least the current release at this time).
