What do you call this area in java (boxed in yellow) wherein you can drop down object? I'm creating same program with this. Thanks for help.

I guess you could call it a canvas.

It's a component of some sort (which isn't saying much!). In code it might be represented as a Component or JComponent, or some subclass of them. (Canvas is a subclass of Component). It's a good idea to call the subclass you create something descriptive like CircuitView. Likewise if your gui has an instance of this class any variable that references the instance should be called something sensible: circuit, view, circuitView, etc all might sense in different contexts.
