    Default Newbie, needing help with Java ( sorry if i am posting in wrong section ) Error message

    Trying to use a chat site, all I get now after I updated to java 7 is an error message reading as follows { class not found exception } followed by { com.chatspace.v400320.chat}

    I did some googling first, saw answers ranging from fix your browser setting in java un check use browser setting, to uninstall and reinstall java, tried both I tried unchecking browser setting in the java control panel, but I had to choose proxy or direct, so I chose direct, ( nothing ) cause I have no idea what im doing duh. so un install and reinstall, that didn't help, tried to find an old java 6 version thinkn that would work an I cant find it on java.com well it has something but like a gazillion forms of java 6 so im like forget that.

    then if ya want to get help from real live support from java sure ya can an they will do it for ya if ya pay 25 bucks an im like forget that , this is my computer, it is a simple fix I know it, I just need some help in finding how to do it. if a friggin 14 yr old in china can hack a computer why can't I get some simple instructions to fix a problem right ?

    anyhow I digress,

    other thing is might be my firewall but so far I doubt that, I am using windows 8 ( horrid but I am figuring it out slowly ).

    is the error message a simple fix or does it really require a lot of know how to do ? if it is too complex I think I can live with just finding a different chat room cause it aint that bloody important.

    but if anyone has the time to explain at least what the error message means I would appreciate it just for knowing, and if anyone can give an answer on how to fix with out bringing it to some nerd squad at best buy that would rock as well.

    peace.

    First, I don't know that Chinese hackers are 14, but if they are, they've been well trained and sit in front of a computer 20 hours a day, figuring it out. I don't know that you have the required patience or aptitude to do what they do.

    You had everything working in Windows 8 before upgrading to Java 7? You're using the same browser as you were before upgrading to Java 7? Which browser/version? Have you tried a different browser, FireFox or Chrome maybe?

    Java 7 did add some security stuff for applets running in browsers, but your error message sounds to be caused by something else. Windows 8 Internet and Java settings also default to more restrictive settings, blocking basic stuff, but if you had it working before, that shouldn't be a problem. Google is messing with the browser landscape so that they seem to be changing quickly these days, obsoleting what was working fine yesterday. Make sure you're using the latest version of whichever browser you're using.

    Good grief don't get too upset over the Chinese comment, ya ever tried playing certain video games against a bloody 8th grader an get whoopd. Maybe ya wouldn't have been offended had I not said Chinese an just focused on the age, an you are right I have a short attention span, little patience and my aptitude is centered else where. Probably worth the $25 to just pay java to fix it for me, everything was working fine in windows 8 before java 7, now I cant even remember why I upgraded to java 7 , an I haven't tried a different browser cause the one I have is working fine it is just one stupid chat site that is not working now since I got java 7 so who cares really.

    was just hoping for a simple answer like go to control panel, look for this, check or uncheck something in java, re install something , who knows.

    An being well trained an sitting in front of a computer for 20 hrs is awesome if you want extremely poor health and a storm of medical problems and can't defend yourself from the zombie apocalypse .

    I wasn't offended. I was just remembering hearing the same thoughts about the Russian Olympians, especially the so-called "female athletes," back in the day. They were young, practically gender-neutral, and that was their life. I don't think it was a pleasant one.

    I don't think you've given anyone enough info for the easy, "check this box" fix, but I could be wrong. I've barely used Windows 8, because I can't justify spending the hours required to work through all of the frustration required to do half of what I can do with almost any other OS, including its predecessors. Maybe a Windows 8 expert who has worked through the same problem will come along.

    Be well.
