You can do a few things for a Double d = 5.09876:
1. Use String.format
String formatted = String.format("%.2f", d);
System.out.println(formatted);
2. Use DecimalFormat
DecimalFormat df = new DecimalFormat("#.##");
System.out.println(df.format(d));
The problem with both of these methods is that is will round up.
The output of the first solution is 5.10
The output of the second solution is 5.1
The better solution is:
3. Use DecimalFormat with RoundingMode.FLOOR
DecimalFormat df = new DecimalFormat("#.##");
df.setRoundingMode(RoundingMode.FLOOR);
System.out.println(df.format(d));
The output of this is 5.09
