Question How do you all practice Java programming?

I'm a computer science student who only just earned an Associate's degree this past Spring but I still don't feel, I guess you could say, that I'm proficient at coding using what I currently know which is only Java basics, and basics of data structures/algorithms. You always hear that the best way to improve or to remember something is through consistent practice, and I'm all for it. BUT the part I get stumped on is the question of: What do I code?

    What I've tried:
I've done most of the problems on CodingBat and I try doing problems here and there on Codewars, although, on Codewars some seem way beyond what I can currently do.

    Conclusion:
How do you practice coding, what do you do exactly, any tricks you do/use to help, any recommendations?

Find a project that solves some problem you (or a friend) currently have and write the code to solve it.
For example a project I am currently working on:
I want to provide a simple way to distribute to other PCs an image of what is shown on my PC's screen.
My project will provide a server that other PCs can connect to and receive a html page that will poll my server for a copy of my PCs screen. The project is to provide a group of people with phones or tablets a quick and easy way to view the contents of my PC while I give a talk about it.
The server on my PC will receive two types of http connections: one to get the html page that will poll for the images and the other a request from that page to return an image of what is being shown on my PC. The server will be written in java.
The html page will be html and a lot of javascript.
If you don't understand my answer, don't ignore it, ask a question.

Ohhh okay, I understand what you're saying. I never really thought about it that way with practice. Coding something I could have some use for or someone else might. At the same time, with this method, it's easy to stay motivated while working on the project. Thank you very much for your advice and the help you give on this forum. Have a great day!
