Nonsense! Get a book, start reading at the beginning, type out every example program, compile, execute, and study each one until you understand them. Complete every exercise at the end of each chapter. When you're done with the book, you'll know enough about Java and programming in general to tutor someone else.
If you're not motivated and interested enough to do the above, then you won't learn how to program, no matter who is holding your hand.
