    Default Heads up! Satellite falling...

BBC News - Nasa satellite UARS nearing Earth 'could land anywhere'

Totally Off Topic for sure. Will you be checking in the last two hours?
Nasa said scientists would only be able to make more accurate predictions about where the satellite might land two hours before
Not sure what the right term is for what I assume will happen to NASA's authoritative web page on the subject. Splashspotted?

Anyone saying It's a satellite are kidding themselves.
It's obviously an alien space ship who's doing a reccy for an attack. Only the Lord can save us now

Odds of you being hit ~ 1 in 21 trillion. Putting this in perspective, the odds of getting hit by lightning in a given year: ~ 1 in a million.

Putting this in perspective, The odds are 1 out of 10,000 (.001%) that you will get injured by a toilet this year.

Odds of you laughing it off if you are the '1': 0

NASA says 1 in 3,200. Are they dividing footprint area / possible landing area? Is your 1 in 21 tn 'hit by an intact fuel tank' or does it also include the speck of hot metal that makes a tiny hole in your styrofoam coffee cup? Don't try to tell me you wouldn't tell the 'satellite hit my coffee cup' story if it happened to you!

Like I said, 1/4 make up their own statistics Odds are 1/3200 that someone will get hit - anyone. Take into account the population of the predicted impact area, that works out to 1 in many trillion that it will hit me (or anyone contributing to this thread for that matter).

Maybe copeg will offer you the 21tn:1 deal on anyone being hit - he'll make sure to stand in crowded places on the day, just in case!

BBC News - Nasa refines satellite crash time

expected to crash to Earth sometime on Friday evening (GMT).
the spacecraft would "not be passing over North America" when it is expected to be pulled through the atmosphere to Earth
The spacecraft could pass over Britain during its final passes over the planet.
Maybe I should start offering odds on my own demise - I could make some money!

AN out-of-control satellite plummeting to Earth at 18,000mph could land almost anywhere this evening – including Britain, Nasa warned last night.

The craft, which is the size of a bus, will break up on entering Earth’s atmosphere, flinging huge chunks of metal weighing up to 350lb across hundreds of miles.
Take cover, Earthlings! A huge 18,000mph out-of-control satellite will hit our planet tonight | Mail Online
