I personally think you need to give more of a description about your website.
On the actual landing page, some kind of text explaining about the site will increase your chances of sign ups.

I could do this but this kind of thing is quite rare. Members need to be able to post links. If the problem was to grow bigger, I would consider it.

I think 30-50 should be enough if you were to make a limit, or make a white list for certain websites like GitHub, source forge. Hmm, from what I know about forum software(phpBB) that isn't possible, maybe with a plugin or something.
