How could we create excel sheets(xls) in java?
Please give a better description of what you're trying to do. A JTable may be part of what you need, and the data would be stored in a CSV file or perhaps other formats. What are you trying to do? Does compatibility with Excel matter? Tons of questions.
If you're referring to literally create an MS Excel xls file using Java (rather than create a spreadsheet application that GregBrannon alluded to), then Apache POI - the Java API for Microsoft Documents is probably what you'll need.
