    How do you want to separate them? By whitespace?

    Okay. Did you read the link I gave you? It links to a very useful function. What happened when you tried it out?

    i read it and i don't know if i can use all the methods there beacuse in the homework they recomended that i can use onlt specific method
    so i think if i use str.length then i can go all over the text until i get space and get the word to a list
    what do u think?

    If your homework told you what you could and could not use, what's the point in asking a forum what you should use? We don't know your requirements unless you tell us about them up front.

    What happened when you tried that out?

    you can just use splitting. eg, splitting by whitespace

    String str = "hello world my nane is mike"
    String s[] = str.split("\\s+")

    note, each individual word is stored in a String array. you can store them in a link list or whatever as you like.

    I think str.split(" ") would work too.

    LinkedList<String> ll = new LinkedList<String>();
    for (int i =0; i < s.length; i++)
    {
    ll.add(s[i]);
    }

    of course, but note that its only one space, (not white space, which includes tabs etc). If all the "blanks" between the words are tabs, it will not work.

    It's worth reading these. Even if you don't fully understand.. The API docs are your friend.
